The annual meeting of American College of Surgeons (ACS) was held from October 12 to October 15, 2009, in Chicago. This was the 95th annual meeting in ACS history. One difference in this meeting from previous meetings was that a Chinese delegation led by Dr. Zhao Yupei, Director of Chinese College of Surgeons (CCS), attended this year¡¯s annual meeting. The Chinese delegation included 200 members from Mainland China. The meeting received about 2000 papers. 500 papers were from China, in which nine papers were selected by organizer for oral presentations. In the gastrointestinal and pancreatic session at noon of the first day, Professor Gu Jin from the Second Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery at Peking University School of Oncology gave a speech on ¡¡ãSurgical treatment of Krukenberg¡¯s cancer caused by ovary metastasis of gastric and colonreactol cancers¡¡À. The conference room was completely full and some people stood in hallway. The session was chaired by Dr. Mark Philip Callery, Director of the Department of Surgery at Harvard Medical School. He introduced Professor Gu ¡¡ãThe next speaker is an Chinese expert. This is the first time ACS invited a speaker from China¡¡À.  Professor Gu¡¯s talk focused on Krukenberg¡¯s cancer caused by gastric and colonreactol cancers and their difference in outcomes after surgical treatment. The talk stimulated interesting discussion among experts. After the session, Professor Callery shacked hands with Professor Gu and said: ¡¡ãCongratulations! It was excellent work¡¡À. In evening on October 12, Chinese College of Surgeons hosted a ¡¡ãChina Night¡¡À reception at the Marriott Hotel of Chicago.  Dr. Cameron, President of American College of Surgeons, attended the reception. CCS President Professor Zhao Yupei introduced the nigh Chinese surgeons who were invited by the annul meeting. Professor Gu Jin was the first invited onto the stage and talked about his speech. President Zhao praised that this was the first time a surgeon from China gave a talk in American College of Surgeons. It symbolized that Chinese surgeons have stood on the stages of the international conferences. ACS was established in 1913 and has held 95 annual meetings. This year¡¯s meeting attracted 15000 surgeons from all over the world and is the biggest conference for the education of clinical surgeons as well as for academic exchange.
