Dr. Wei Zhang was elected as USCACA President for 2010-2011

In the past USCACA 2010 Annual meeting, Dr. Wei Zhang was elected as 2nd President for USCACA. 

Dr.  Wei Zhang is a Professor of Pathology and Cancer Biology, and Director of Cancer Genomics Core Laboratory in the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.  

Dr. Zhang received his BS degree in biochemistry from Beijing University in 1985. He came to the graduate school in the US under the CUSBEA program in 1986 and received his PhD degree in molecular biology from The University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in Houston, Texas. Dr. Zhang joined the faculty of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in 1994 and is currently a Professor in Pathology and Cancer Biology in the Department of Pathology and at The University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Zhang has also been the director of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center??s Cancer Genomics Core Laboratory since 1999. Dr. Zhang has published 210 peer-reviewed papers, 7 invited articles, and 20 book chapters. Dr. Zhang is a holder of 2 US patents. Dr. Zhang co-edited two books (Statistical and Computational Approaches to Genomics, 1st and 2nd edition, and Genomic and Molecular Neuro-Oncology, translated into Chinese) and co-authored one book (Microarray Quality Control).  Dr. Zhang serves on the editorial boards of 14 journals including Clinical Cancer Research, International Journal of Oncology, BMC Genomics, Cancer Biology and Therapy, Cancer Letters, Histology and Histopathology,  Chinese Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Chinese Journal of Cancer.  Dr. Zhang??s research has been supported by numerous grants from NCI/NIH, DOD, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and several foundations. Currently he is funded by two RO1 and grants from the National Foundation of Cancer Research, Goldhirsh Foundation, James S. McDonald Foundation, and Shriver Initiatives for Sarcoma. Dr. Zhang is a co-director of one of 7 Genome Data Analysis Center (GDAC) under the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) project funded by NCI.  Dr. Zhang has served on many grant review panels and has reviewed more than180 NIH grants. Dr. Zhang is a chartered member of NIH Cancer Genetics Study Section and has reviewed close to 200 NIH grants. Dr. Zhang has been active in promoting collaboration in cancer research between China and US. He has been a visiting professor at Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital for more than 12 years. He chairs the international steering committee for the Tumor Tissue Bank at the Tianjin Cancer Institute and Hospital. Dr. Zhang has been an active educator and has graduated 6 PhD students. He has also been a mentor to many visiting scientists, postdocs, and visiting graduate students from China and other countries.
